Unintended Consequences

  1. Pretty funny Zach...especially if you don't let the facts get in the way :)

    I think it would be so much greater (and more accurate) if you would have Cardinal Humbert pronouncing his excommunication of Celuarious in 1054 on the top frame, then all the division like you illustrate, then the good Cardinal (or Pope Leo IX saying "that went well" in the bottom frame.

    We all what a good job the Papacy did at unifying "the Church" from 1054 to 1517 don't we?

  2. Ah, yes. But, you see, all of the division pictured in my cartoon resulted directly from the Protestant principle of private interpretation, which Luther famously introduced and so neatly summarized in his famous phrase "Here I stand." True, the Great Schism of 1054 was tragic, but how many notable divisions were there between 1054 and 1517? Just askin'.
